Can a vas deferens rupture?
The vas deferens consists of two strong muscle layers as well as a layer of connective tissue, thus forming a very resistant structure. The special arrangement of the muscle and connective tissue fibres also allows a dynamic reaction to the changing pressure conditions and makes it practically impossible for the vas deferens to tear. Nevertheless, injuries to the vas deferens can occur.
This is a possible complication, especially during surgical interventions on neighboring structures, but is very rare. Furthermore, inflammations can lead to injuries. If there has been scarring on the vas deferens due to previous procedures, e.g.
a vasectomy, this can influence the behaviour under high pressure, e.g. during ejaculation, and occasionally lead to pain. Even then, however, a rupture of the vas deferens remains very unlikely.
