Capsule Rupture in Finger, Knee, Ankle and Toe

A torn capsule in the finger is particularly common in ball sports such as handball or volleyball. If a ball is hit incorrectly, the finger may bend in a direction not intended in the joint, damaging the capsule. But such an injury can also occur as a result of a fall. Often, a torn capsule in the finger or thumb is also accompanied by a ligament injury.

In the event of a torn capsule in the finger, a doctor should always be consulted to rule out a fracture. As an immediate measure, cooling with ice packs or cold packs is recommended. Usually the injury heals completely after a few weeks, but in some cases the mobility of the joint may remain limited.

Torn capsule in the knee

The human knee is particularly susceptible to injury. In the case of a capsular tear in the knee, there is initially a stabbing pain, the knee swells and a dull, pulsating pain becomes noticeable.

If a capsular tear in the knee is suspected, a doctor should rule out an injury to the ligaments. If the diagnosis of capsular tear is confirmed, the knee joint should be loaded as little as possible. Only when the capsule tear has healed should targeted movement exercises be started. Capsular tears in the knee usually heal without problems.

Capsule tear in the ankle joint (ankle).

The ankle joint is one of the most stressed joints. Due to a twisting of the foot during sports or in everyday life, a capsule injury can quickly occur here. This is usually accompanied by a stretched or torn ligament.

A torn capsule in the ankle joint shows the symptoms typical of a capsular injury, such as severe swelling of the joint, a bruise and a restriction of mobility. To immobilize the ankle joint as much as possible after the injury, the doctor will either apply a tape bandage or prescribe an orthopedic prosthesis.

After the injury has healed, the muscles around the ankle should be rebuilt through targeted training. When playing sports, they should continue to stabilize the affected joint for some time by wearing a bandage.

Torn capsule in the toe

A torn capsule in the toe can occur not only during sports, but also during everyday movements. If the injury is treated professionally and taped, the toe can often be fully weight-bearing again after two to three weeks. Once the injury has healed, the foot muscles should be strengthened through targeted exercises. This can prevent long-term discomfort.
