Apart from the organs described above, tension in the muscles of the chest and spine can also cause chest pain. Here, too, it is crucial that the complaints can usually be provoked and intensified by appropriate movements. Gentle postures reduce the complaints.
Orthopaedic diseases affecting the spine can also trigger chest pain and pulling in the chest at an advanced stage. However, the manifestation will have already progressed to such an extent that a connection between the chest pain and the postural damage is usually obvious. These include: Bekhterev’s disease, in which patients have postural defects with a forward bent gait; funnel chest, in which the sternum grows inwards with the adjacent ribs and can thus cause chest pain. In the case of chest pain caused by orthopaedic causes, however, position-specific relief is often possible and usually rules out the possibility of a heart attack.
