Contraindications

Oxazepam is contraindicated in the following conditions:

  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Liver Failure
  • Ataxias
  • Sleep Apnea Syndrome
  • Breathing problems
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Existing or past dependencies (alcohol, medication, drugs)
  • Allergy to benzodiazepines.

Side effects

The drug oxazepam can sometimes cause undesirable side effects. These side effects are very similar to those of other benzodiazepines. Fatigue, exhaustion and poor concentration may occur.

In addition, restlessness, memory problems, drowsiness and general muscle weakness may occur. Oxazepam may also cause dizziness, gastrointestinal disorders and allergic reactions. An indication of an allergy may be an irritated reaction of the skin.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy oxazepam is contraindicated unless absolutely necessary. Benzodiazepine use may cause respiratory depression, hypotension, hypoactivity and even withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.
