Costs | Torn earlobe

Costs

The cost of treating cracks in the earlobe depends on the cause and type of crack. However, if treatment is necessary, such as wound care in hospital after an accident, the health insurance company will cover the costs of treatment. The treatment of neurodermatitis or allergic eczema is also covered by the health insurance.

If you have private insurance, you must inquire about the costs of treatment. If a torn earlobe is to be sutured for cosmetic reasons, however, this usually has to be paid for by the patient. The amount of the costs is determined by the treating physician.

Torn earlobes in babies & children

Babies and children can also have cracks in the earlobes. Basically, the same causes are conceivable that lead to cracks in the earlobes of adults. A common cause of dry and cracked skin in babies is the so-called milk crust.

This must not be confused with head gneiss and only occurs after the 3rd month of life. It is the early childhood form of neurodermatitis, which leads to cracked and dry skin. Itching is also typical.

Because of its appearance it is also called milk crust. Furthermore, fungal diseases or allergic reactions (allergic contact eczema) of the skin can lead to small cracks on the earlobes.Small injuries, for example, scratching the earlobe, are also often the reason for fine cracks. With babies and children, it is recommended to consult a pediatrician if you are uncertain, who can then determine the cause.

Cracks due to stretching of the ear holes (“tunnel”)

The stretching of the ear holes is a so-called “body modification” measure. This means that desired changes have been made to a body part. One should be aware that in this way one permanently changes the shape of the earlobes.

However, stretching the ear holes too quickly or incorrectly can lead to painful cracks in the earlobe, which then usually heal scarred or, in the worst case, become infected with germs. Therefore before stretching your ear holes you should inform yourself exactly about the process of stretching or contact a professional piercing studio.
