Costs | What is an orthosis for the foot?

Costs

The cost of orthoses for the foot varies greatly and depends heavily on the size of the orthosis and whether it has to be custom-made. Aircast splints, sports bandages and similar orthoses are usually available for 50 to 200 euros. Vacuum splints, on the other hand, are considerably more expensive because they are more complex to produce. Custom-made orthoses can easily cost over 1000 Euro

Does the health insurance pay for it?

Normally, the health insurance company covers the costs of orthoses. If there is sufficient medical justification for the cost coverage, a simple prescription by the doctor is sufficient for the health insurance company to cover the costs. As a rule, 10% of the costs must be covered as a co-payment, but the amount must not be less than 5 or more than 10 Euros.

For individually made orthoses, a detailed application to the health insurance company is often necessary. Whether the insurance company pays for the orthosis depends on the indication and necessity and is decided individually.
