COVID-19: Answers for the Post-Vaccination Period

When does the vaccination start to take effect?

For the vaccines currently approved in Germany to fully develop their protective effect, two injections are usually necessary. An exception is the vaccine from the manufacturer Janssen (Johnson & Johnson): A single dose of vaccine is sufficient for full protection.

With the AstraZeneca preparation, the best possible protection is achieved with a vaccination interval of three months. Although the second dose of the vaccine can in principle be given earlier, experts point out that the protective effect is significantly reduced if the second dose is given too early.

How well does vaccination protect me?

None of the available vaccines offers complete protection. Therefore, remain cautious and responsible. But, all four coronavirus vaccines protect against severe and fatal covid-19 courses, based on current knowledge.

Whether a person falls ill again depends largely on the person’s state of health, age, physical fitness, the specific variant of the pathogen and the amount of pathogen at exposure.

Can I continue to infect other people despite vaccination?

Particularly in view of the increasing spread of new strains of corona virus, second infections or further transmission of the pathogen are conceivable despite vaccination. However, initial findings make the researchers confident that the risk of infecting others is significantly reduced after vaccination.

Do I still have to wear a mask?

Yes. The proven hygiene rules continue to apply even for people who have already been vaccinated.

Will I enjoy more freedom as a vaccinated or recovered person?

Whether a vaccination – or a covid 19 disease – entitles you to visit a gym, restaurant or cultural event is currently under discussion in Germany. Uniform regulations are still pending.

How do I prove my vaccination protection?

In some cases, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination to document your vaccination status.

Please note: At least 14 days must have passed since the last required individual vaccination.

How do I prove that I have been vaccinated against Covid?

No uniform rules apply yet

However, there are not yet any uniform federal regulations governing which specific certificates must be submitted when required. In any case, the certificates should be meaningful:

  • PCR result from a certified diagnostic laboratory
  • Quarantine certificate from a public health office
  • Medical certificate confirming test type, test date and findings

What do I do if I have lost my detection?

The findings are stored there and can be reissued on request. However, it is likely that a corresponding processing fee will then be incurred.

What do I do if I notice Covid 19 symptoms again?

To be on the safe side, you should take a Corona rapid test. Even those who have been vaccinated may become infected – and then pass on the virus.

You can find more detailed information about the Corona self-test here.

Reactions to vaccination are normal. These typical vaccination reactions include fever, fatigue or pain at the injection site. They show that your immune system is responding to the vaccination.
