Detection of periodontal disease
Unfortunately, periodontitis is often discovered very late. For this reason, signs of periodontitis should be taken seriously. Signs of periodontal disease are frequent bleeding gums, strong sensitivity to heat or cold stimuli.
Furthermore, strong bad breath can be a symptom of already existing periodontosis. As soon as you recognize the symptoms, it is therefore very important to visit a dentist immediately. Furthermore, regular visits to the dentist are essential for prevention. Thus, developing periodontal diseases can be detected early.
What can I do for prophylaxis?
The most important thing to prevent periodontal disease is extensive daily oral hygiene. This includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day. The use of interdental brushes and dental floss is also very important.
The food residues and bacteria are deposited mainly in the interdental spaces. In addition, a tongue cleaner is highly recommended, because the bacteria also prefer to deposit on the tongue. Another important aspect of prophylaxis is regular check-ups at the dentist.
A six-monthly visit to the dentist is recommended. In addition, one should pay attention in everyday life to prevent an infection of partners, acquaintances or family members. Infection can be caused by kissing, the use of the same toothbrush or the same cutlery. In order to prevent infection, in addition to the above-mentioned infection risks, attention should be paid to good general health. Even if the disease has not yet broken out and you still carry the bacteria of periodontal disease, a weakened immune system, taking medication, stress, smoking or alcohol can promote the onset of periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease transmission through kissing
Periodontosis is a disease of the oral cavity in which the periodontium degenerates. This can lead to the loss of teeth. This infectious disease can be transmitted directly, e.g. by saliva during kissing. As soon as one of the partners notices the symptoms of periodontosis (bleeding gums, bad breath, sensitivity to irritation, receding gums), one should refrain from kissing the partner in addition to seeing a doctor immediately. In addition, both should undergo periodontal therapy to prevent them from infecting each other again in the future by kissing.
