Diagnosis | Adrenal Inflammation

Diagnosis

The typical symptoms of adrenal insufficiency can usually be recognized by any doctor by means of a gaze diagnosis. However, since the insufficiency can be triggered by various causes, and since an inflammation is not always responsible for the symptoms, comprehensive diagnostics are usually performed. By injecting a certain substance that stimulates the adrenal cortex, the reaction of the body in the blood can be measured and, if necessary, adrenal inflammation can be diagnosed. If an acute Addison’s disease is suspected, treatment should be carried out before the diagnosis is confirmed in order to avoid serious consequences.

Prognosis

The prognosis of an adrenal inflammation with associated adrenal cortex insufficiency is very good. Affected persons do not have a reduced life expectancy and can lead a symptom-free life. It is important to take the correct medication to mimic the function of the adrenal gland as closely as possible. Regular check-ups with a doctor are just as important in order to be able to recognize the need to adjust the medication.

Prophylaxis

The causes for the occurrence of an inflammation of the adrenal glands caused by the immune system are the subject of medical research and have not yet been clearly clarified. So far, no recommendation can be given on how to prevent the occurrence of the disease.
