Diagnosis | Bruise on the face

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of a haematoma results from two areas. On the one hand, the patient is asked about the cause of the hematoma on his face. This now gives information about an accident, fall or a blow, for example. On the other hand, the doctor asks the patient about typical bruising symptoms or the doctor himself examines signs such as swelling and skin discoloration. Since a bruise on the face is usually clearly visible from the outside and thus unmistakable, the diagnosis does not take long.

Duration

The duration of a haematoma depends strongly on its size, but those affected can expect about seven days. At the beginning the bruise is discoloured red and a swelling with pain occurs. From one day after the injury, the bruise may turn blue or black.

After four to seven days the bruise turns greenish and then changes its colour to yellow after seven days. When the skin at the affected area has returned to its original colour, the bruise has disappeared as the blood that has leaked out has been completely eliminated. Read more about this:
