In the case of recurring attacks of ravenous hunger, which occur with frequent regularity, you should consult your family doctor. The first step in making a diagnosis is to take a detailed medical history. Important questions that need to be clarified would be When and how often does ravenous appetite occur?

Since when do the attacks occur? What are your normal eating habits? How often and under what conditions do you eat?

However, questions can also be asked about medication and the symptoms accompanying the overeating attack. Furthermore, a physical examination and blood tests are necessary to clarify a physical cause, such as a metabolic disorder. Prognosis

In general, however, one can assume that the causes of ravenous hunger attacks can only become life-threatening in the most severe cases and if they are not treated.

Prophylaxis

Ravenous appetite is difficult to avert, as it can also occur in everyday situations such as during a growth phase or after prolonged physical exertion. Of course, preventive measures can be taken, especially to avoid the above mentioned physical diseases such as diabetes. A healthy diet and plenty of exercise can best prevent this disease, but one should not overdo it either.

Diets, unbalanced nutrition and an over-exercising program can lead to other problems that are detrimental to a healthy life. The most helpful thing to do is to follow a balanced diet and supplement it with sports that are fun as well as physical exercise. It can help to develop strategies for stressful and emotionally disturbing situations and not to rely on the emotional comfort of food.Meditation or psychological counseling could be considered for help, but this is a decision everyone should make for themselves.

The symptom ravenous appetite itself can only be prevented to a limited extent – because it is only a symptom. If you suffer from recurring attacks, you should look for the underlying cause and treat it if necessary. As in many cases, early detection helps.
