Diagnosis
In case of twitching in the abdomen, it is recommended for women to consult a gynecologist. The gynecologist can exclude serious diseases in the area of the female reproductive organs by means of vaginal examination and/or ultrasound. In most cases a twitching in the abdomen is actually harmless.
Stress, emotional strain or magnesium deficiency are often triggering factors. If twitching in the abdomen occurs in men, the family doctor is the first point of contact. He will first take a medical history and then carry out a short physical examination.
Duration
Depending on the trigger, the twitching in the abdomen is only of very short duration. If it occurs during pregnancy or before or after menstruation, you should consult your gynecologist. Ultimately, it may be natural that the twitching occurs from time to time and then disappears again. As long as there are no other accompanying symptoms, however, a serious illness is not to be expected.
