Discoloration is only found at the edge | Blue acorn – What could be behind it?

Discoloration is only found at the edge

The glans can be more or less blue at the edges due to its natural colour. However, it is also possible that injuries, accidents and manipulations may cause the glans to turn blue only at the edges. This can happen, for example, through unreasonably strong masturbation. In these cases a visit to the doctor should be made to avoid irreversible consequential damage.

Blue acorn in infant/child

In children and infants the glans is usually purple-blue in colour. The natural colour may vary. The decisive factor is whether the colour of the glans is always the same or has changed due to an event, injury, disorder or illness.

It is also essential whether the children complain about other complaints such as pain. Infants who have pain in the context of this, but are not yet able to express themselves linguistically, express their discomfort through their behaviour. This means that they scream more often, withdraw or react irritably and aggressively. In some cases there may be a narrowing of the foreskin which must be treated early. If it is observed that the glans of a child or infant discolours, a paediatrician should be contacted immediately.

What can you do about it?

If there is no pathological cause and no risk of consequential damage, no action is required. However, if the discolouration of the glans is related to disease-related changes, adequate treatment must be given according to the cause. A self-treatment is not recommended and can result in irreversible damage.

Therefore a visit to a doctor is always necessary in such a case. In some cases, emergency medical treatment must be carried out directly. Often the visit to the doctor is avoided due to feelings of shame and the clinical picture worsens.

Therefore it is important to overcome the feelings of shame and contact a doctor. It is essential to inform the doctor as honestly and precisely as possible about events that may be related to the symptoms. The person concerned should bear in mind that the doctor has a duty of confidentiality.

It is also his aim to alleviate complaints and heal illnesses – regardless of which part of the body is involved and the reasons for the injuries or illnesses. The treatment can contain various medicinal and non-drug components and depends on the cause. This can often involve a minor or major surgical procedure. For example, in the case of a causative foreskin constriction, surgery is performed.

Duration and forecast

The duration and prognosis depends on the cause. In the case of a natural, non-disease-related blue coloration of the glans, the natural color persists and there is usually no reason for concern. If the acorn is discoloured blue due to disease-related disorders, the duration and prognosis will vary.

If the blue discolouration of the glans is small, uncomplicated, acute and adequately treated, the complaints can heal without consequences after a few days or weeks. In these cases the prognosis is good. If the injuries or diseases of the glans are larger, complicated, insufficiently or not treated at all, or if unfavourable conditions are present, the healing process can take months and possibly be accompanied by irreversible damage.
