Dosage for bronchitis
Bronchitis is viral in 90% of cases. Therefore a therapy with an antibiotic is often not useful. Amoxicillin is not prescribed for bronchitis in Regeö, because it cannot fight the viruses.
Rarely bacteria are also responsible for bronchitis. These bacteria are usually mycoplasma or chlamydia, against which amoxicillin is ineffective. Other antibiotics, such as Doxycycline, are suitable for fighting this type of bacteria.
Dosage for middle ear inflammation/ Otitis media
Otitis media, like many other infections, can be treated with amoxicillin. However, a general therapy with antibiotics is not recommended for middle ear infection. It should be carefully considered whether the use of antibiotics makes sense.
In some cases, for example, when there are very severe symptoms or complications are imminent, the use of amoxicillin makes sense. The dosage for adults is between 500 to 1000 mg 3 times daily for 7 days. However, the duration of use may vary.
In children, the dosage is determined by body weight until the age of 12. It is approximately between 50 to 100 mg per kilogram of body weight divided into 2 to 3 single doses for a period of 7 to 14 days. After the age of 12 years, the dose is the same as the usual dose for adults. Whether Amoxicillin should be used for treatment must be clarified with the treating physician.
Amoxicillin in dialysis patients
For people with limited kidney function or dialysis patients, a dose adjustment of amoxicillin is necessary. A reduction of the dose is necessary because Amoxicillin is excreted via the kidney. Therefore, when kidney function is reduced, amoxicillin may accumulate in the body due to limited excretion. However, as this is a very special situation in which many factors have to be considered, it is not possible to give a general indication of the dose of amoxicillin in dialysis at this point.
