Duration of anaesthesia
The duration of the colonoscopy depends on various factors. On the one hand, the condition of the intestine plays an important role. For example, if the bowel is very curved, visibility can be poor and the duration of the colonoscopy can therefore be extended.
Furthermore, a colonoscopy takes longer if pathological changes such as bleeding or tumours (polyps) are found during the examination than if the intestinal mucosa is healthy. Due to these factors, the duration of a colonoscopy usually varies between 15 and 30 minutes. If the patient wishes a short anaesthetic, this will be maintained for the same period.
