Duration of norovirus infection | Norovirus infection in pregnancy – How dangerous is it?

Duration of norovirus infection

A norovirus infection during pregnancy usually runs short and severe – as in non-pregnant women. The symptoms usually last for one to a maximum of 3 days. However, especially in pregnant women, even after the acute symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting have subsided, a feeling of weakness with increased tiredness and listlessness can persist for several days.

This is what I can do to avoid being infected

Noroviruses are transmitted exclusively from person to person. This is because germs from the vomit or stool of the sick person are transmitted to the still healthy person. Hygiene measures are therefore of paramount importance in order to prevent infection.

Sick people should not come into close contact with other people. If contact cannot be avoided, the still healthy contact persons, especially pregnant women, should protect themselves with disposable coats, mouthguards and gloves. In addition, after each contact with a sick person, the hands should be washed and disinfected with a suitable disinfectant.

Especially if a person in the same household is ill, it is important to ensure that the same toilet is not used. If this is not possible, for example because only one toilet is available, strict hygiene with suitable cleaning agents and disinfectants is necessary after each use by the sick person. It should also be noted that infection with noroviruses is possible up to 48 hours after the symptoms (diarrhea and vomiting) have subsided.
