Definition – What is an educational assistance landscape?
An educational assistance landscape is an independent, public and specific service offer in the field of youth welfare for education, which is anchored in the Social Code Book VIII. Educational assistance is for families who have problems with their underage children, mostly developmental problems, and do not see conflict resolution without outside help. The parents or the persons who have custody of the children can voluntarily apply for an educational assistance program. The parents are provided with a support service that can not only give advice, but also seek solutions to the conflict locally, such as in school.
What are the tasks of an educational assistance organization?
An educational assistance program helps families with problems within the family. The parents have conflicts with their children which they cannot solve without help from others. The educational assistance tries to eliminate these conflicts so that the children or parents are no longer under emotional pressure and are relieved.
In addition, the main task of the educational assistance is to develop family structures that enable the child or adolescent in the family to develop optimally and create the conditions for the best possible educational care. The child is not only supported in difficult situations, but also receives assistance in coming to terms with and coping with everyday life. For this purpose, the child is assisted by a pedagogical specialist.
This specialist also has the task of intervening in the case of endangered child welfare. Furthermore, the specialist not only deals with the child, but also makes it her/his task to examine the child’s social environment and, if necessary, to involve her/him in problem solving if there are also sources of conflict. This also includes school for children who, for example, play truant or have problems with classmates at school. In the case of a child’s undersupply, the educational assistance takes over the parents’ tasks in order to ensure optimal care of the child.
