Esophageal Cancer: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (viewing).
      • Skin, mucous membranes and sclerae (white part of the eye) [anemia (anemia)].
    • Inspection and palpation (palpation) of lymph node stations (cervical, axillary, supraclavicular, inguinal).
    • Inspection and palpation of the spine
    • Auscultation (listening) of the heart [due tosymptom: retrosternal thoracic pain (pain behind the sternum)].
    • Auscultation of the lungs
    • Palpation of the abdomen (abdomen) (pressure pain?, knock pain?, cough pain?, defensive tension?, hernial orifices?, kidney bearing knock pain?)Health check (as an additional follow-up measure).
