Help with Teething – Tips, Home Remedies, Homeopathy

The baby is teething – what to do?

What helps my child with teething? Generations of parents have asked themselves this question. The following home remedies can relieve the pain of teething. However, the effect of home remedies is limited. If the pain persists as a result, take your baby to the pediatrician who is treating him.

  • Chewing: Chewing and teething rings or, depending on age, vegetable sticks or violet root are helpful during teething. Chewing massages the gums and stimulates the eruption of the first teeth.
  • Cool: A cold spoon from the refrigerator, teething rings with cooling elements or tinctures with a cooling effect – cold also soothes and helps teething.
  • Teething gel (without sugar, alcohol and menthol!): Ingredients such as mallow extract, chamomile or panthenol have a soothing effect on irritated gums.
  • Herbal tinctures: Anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving teas such as sage or chamomile tea can be dabbed onto the gums with a cotton swab.
  • Homeopathy: Depending on the symptoms, various globules are also said to ease the teething period.
  • Amber necklace: Some parents trust in the power of stones during teething, but the benefits have not been scientifically proven. In addition, chains with stone pendants are in danger of strangulation, so it is better not to put them around the child’s neck!

If babies are teething, this usually proceeds without complications. However, if your child has severe pain and a high fever, a pediatrician must clarify the cause.

Antipyretics and painkillers are not usually necessary during teething. They should generally be used cautiously in the first year of life and only after consultation with the doctor.

If the baby cannot sleep during teething

The baby is teething and not sleeping – what to do? When the baby is teething, it usually does not sleep very well. Especially at night, the eruption of teeth can rob the child and parents of sleep.

If your child is restless and crying at night because of teething – or for other reasons – you should never leave him alone in this situation. Comfort it and take turns doing so.

If teething does not let your baby sleep, you can also try to give him relief with the gentle remedies mentioned above. Ultimately, it is only patience that helps with teething and the knowledge that this phase will also end at some point.
