Herbal Tea: Recipes

Herbs can be taken as described, as a tea (infusion, extract, decoction), but also as capsules, in the form of a syrup (for example, cough syrup), as a drink or gargle. Many plants are prepared fresh for this purpose, such as ginger root in a cold drink or elderberry in fresh plant juice. Below you will find a wealth of recipes for herbal teas or other uses with herbs.

Recipes for herbal teas

Here you will find recipes for making herbal teas with healing properties:

  • Chamomile, ginger, lime blossom for tension headache: simmer 1 tsp freshly grated ginger for 5 min in a closed pot with 250 ml water. Add 1 tsp. dried chamomile and 1 tsp. dried lime blossoms and steep for another 10 min. without heat. Drain the tea, drink hot.
  • Elderflower tea to prevent colds: pour 1-2 tsp elderflower with 150 ml hot water, strain after 10 min. Drink several times a day as hot as possible.
  • Nettle tea to stimulate metabolism: 2 tsp nettle leaves with 150 ml boiling water pour over and infuse for 10 min. Drink a cup several times a day.
  • Valerian, hops, St. John’s wort against insomnia: 30 g valerian root, 50 g hop flowers, 20 g St. John’s wort. Pour a cup of boiling water over one tablespoon of the mixture and steep for 10 min. Drink 30 min before sleeping.
  • St. John’s wort tea for nervousness or mild depression: pour 1-2 tsp of St. John’s wort with 150 ml of boiling water, strain after 10 min. Drink 1-2 cups in the morning and evening.
  • Valerian tea to calm: 1 tsp dried valerian root with 250 ml boiling water pour over, infuse for 10 minutes, then strain. Drink up to three cups daily.
  • Ginger, fennel, peppermint for indigestion: simmer 1 tsp freshly grated ginger and 1/2 tsp fennel seeds in 250 ml water for 5 min. Remove pot from heat and add 1/2 tsp dried peppermint. Cover and let steep for another 10 min. Strain and drink warm.

Home remedy recipes with herbs

These are some recpete for home remedies from herbs:

  • Ribwort or sage for inflammation of mouth/throat: pour 2-3 tsp ribwort with 150 ml boiling water, strain after 10 min. Or: 2 tsp dried sage pour 250 ml boiling water and infuse for 10 min. Strain and add ½ tsp sea salt. Gargle warm several times a day.
  • Marjoram butter for colds: from just blossomed marjoram, take the upper third of the stem with flowers and leaves, shred them and put 2 large handfuls in 250 g of hot butter fat. Stir constantly for 45 minutes, the butter should not boil. Then strain. Kept in a cool place, the butter will keep for 1 year. It is massaged into the neck and rubbed into both nostrils.
  • Onion syrup for cough: cover a large, finely chopped onion with honey and heat in a saucepan, covered, over low heat for 40 minutes. Take 1/2 to 1 tsp every 15-30 minutes daily. Juice pour into a glass bottle and store in the refrigerator for the duration of treatment.
  • Ginger against cold feeling: simmer 3 tsp freshly grated ginger for 10 min in half a liter of water. Then strain and add lemon juice and honey to taste.
  • Echinacea to strengthen the immune system: to increase immunity, take 1 tsp Echinacea extract three times a day for prevention. Echinacea should be used continuously for no longer than 2 weeks.
