HIV transmission through saliva?
Since HIV infection is transmitted via body fluids, the question naturally arises whether infection via saliva (e.g. when kissing) is possible. The answer to this question is: ” Usually: No!”. This is because the amount of virus (concentration) in the saliva is extremely small, and so a huge amount of saliva would have to be absorbed, which is not possible on this scale.
However, if a kissing person, or even both, have a bleeding wound in their mouth, the probability of transmission is increased. An infection is now quite possible, depending on the amount of blood in the saliva (a relatively large amount of blood must be added).
