If you think “puffy, tired, old” when you look in the mirror in the morning, you are most likely suffering from bags under the eyes. These are mainly due to the sensitive connective tissue around the eye, which is increasingly losing its firmness. Which does not mean that only the surgeon can help. Or at least the miracle cures of the cosmetics industry, which are advertised with big words.
What helps against bags under the eyes?
To avoid going to the surgeon, you can also relieve bags under the eyes with the combination of cold and caffeine. With simple home remedies and natural active ingredients, equally visible effects can also be achieved in the short term. We have researched what they are, how they work, what supports them and what miracle cure generations of models rely on. Tear sacs are mistakenly understood as swellings in the upper and lower eyelid. The swollen upper eyelid visually reduces the size of the eye, while the accumulation of fluid in the lower eyelid makes the whole face look puffy and literally casts shadows. However, bags under the eyes are not one thing: a consequence of extensive crying or not crying at all. They are also not filled with tears, but with a mixture of fat and tissue fluid that is deposited more and more easily in the connective tissue as we age and lose elasticity. The good news is that bags under the eyes can be visibly reduced in both the short and medium term. Simple household products and foodstuffs are used, and in exceptional cases the medicine cabinet can be used for the big show. Here, one always relies on the combined effect of promoting the lymph flow and a tightening of the tissue.
Quick help
Help in five to ten minutes: Ideally, there is a small bowl in the refrigerator with the tea bags of the breakfast or afternoon tea, provided that it is green or black tea, preferably combined with sage tea. Coffee drinkers are out of luck, unless they use a pad machine. Under no circumstances should the cooled brew be spread purely on the eye, – too fast sharp-edged coffee powder gets into the eye and underneath the sensitive eyelids. If you have a lot of brew, cling film and about 20 minutes time, use the rest for cellulite wraps.
The combination of active ingredients: cold and caffeine. The cold effect can also be achieved with teaspoons that have been placed in the freezer for five minutes – never longer, otherwise there is a risk of freezer burn! – put in the freezer. Instead of caffeine, other firming agents can also be used, but they should be applied very carefully and removed after a short time: Egg white and agar-agar. A drop of honey can also be added to both. These mixtures are also appreciated by the rest of the facial skin. Agar-agar and egg white tighten, honey soothes. Oils should be avoided for short-term application unless they are bound in liposomes. They are visually distracting and, in addition, most oils “crawl” into the corner of the eye over time. Therefore, solutions with oil are only suitable as a medium-term prophylaxis to be applied in the evening.
Alternative remedies
Also very effective: ice cubes made from aloe vera juice. This can be used in cosmetics long after the expiration date, – even more so when frozen. The effect is enriched by the addition of green tea. The effect is potentiated if the frozen product contains a few drops of witch hazel extract, a concentrate of the medicinal active ingredient of witch hazel. Witch hazel has a strong astringent effect, it visibly and noticeably contracts the pores. Therefore, it is also the essential ingredient of an ointment that has been selling like hot cakes among models for decades. According to the advertising, however, the actual target group for the product is male. Guessed? Hemorrhoid ointment. However, due to the remaining ingredients, often kerosene and/or lanolin, it makes more sense to reach for the ice cubes and buy witch hazel extract at the pharmacy. In the long term, of course, eye circles are counteracted by “sufficient sleep”, “less stress” and “balanced, vitamin-rich diet“. Alternative for lazy stressed people: mix some sesame oil and the contents of a Q10 capsule with a very light lotion. Q10 and the vitamin E of sesame oil are well-known anti-aging agents, supported by a protein complex recently discovered by the cosmetics industry. One last tip against bags under the eyes: the muscles around the eye play a crucial role and should therefore be exercised several times a day.The most effective exercise: a smile that reaches the eyes.
