Aphtae are small vesicles, which are mostly found on the mucous membranes in the mouth and less frequently in the genital area. They are yellowish and very painful. Since they trigger an inflammatory reaction, they are usually surrounded by reddened mucous membranes.
Aphtae are caused by a defect in the mucosa. The causes of this are not yet clear, but they often occur in the context of an infection or with certain triggers, such as food. They are not contagious and independent healing usually takes one to two weeks. The problem with aphthae is that they often recur after a first appearance.
These household remedies are used
There are various home remedies that can be used for aphthae:
- Camomile tea
- Green Tea
- Tea tree oil
- Chewing papaya pieces
Application: Camomile tea can be used as a substitute for a gargle solution. For this purpose it should be prepared in a very concentrated form, e.g. two tea bags per cup. Effect: Chamomile has many ingredients that have an anti-inflammatory effect.
This reduces pain and redness. In addition, the healing process of the mucous membrane defect is stimulated. What do you have to consider?
The camomile tea bags can also be placed directly on the affected area for a few minutes. Application: Green tea can be drunk several times a day. The tea leaves can also be chewed, which allows the ingredients to spread in the mouth.
Another possibility is to place a tea bag directly on the aphtae. Effect: Green tea has a pain-reducing and anti-inflammatory effect. Also the healing of the aphthae is promoted by the tannic acid of green tea.
What do you have to consider? For chewing it is recommended to put some tea leaves in water for a few minutes, then let them drain and chew the tea leaves. Directions for use: The Tea Tree Oil can be applied directly on the aphtes.
A cotton swab is particularly suitable for this. This is poured over with a drop of tea tree oil and then applied to the aphte. Effect: The tea tree oil has an antimicrobial effect and kills existing pathogens.
This cleans the corresponding area and allows it to heal faster. What do you have to consider? Before using the Tea Tree Oil, the aphthae and the surrounding area should be dried with a little absorbent cotton.
Directions for use: To use the papaya, it can be cut into small pieces and then chewed for a few minutes. Alternatively, it is also helpful to add papaya to a salad, for example. Effect: The papaya fruit contains numerous active ingredients that are beneficial to health.
These include enzymes that have an anti-inflammatory effect and can therefore reduce the pain and redness of the aphthae. What do you have to consider? For an optimal effect, it helps to chew the papaya pieces as long as possible.
