How does atrial flutter affect my life expectancy?

Numerous studies and investigations in recent years have shown no influence of atrial flutter on life expectancy. However, a normal life expectancy requires treatment of the disease and drug prevention of possible complications and risks.Especially previously heart healthy patients under 65 years of age show a similar life expectancy as patients without heart rhythm disorders. Patients who also suffer from heart disease (coronary heart disease, heart valve disease, heart muscle disease, heart failure) showed a lower life expectancy due to atrial flutter just a few years or decades ago. However, due to newly developed and improved treatment options, the life expectancy of these patient groups today hardly differs at all.
