Laser treatment | Exercises against varicose veins

Laser treatment

Laser treatment can also be considered for varicose veins. However, this treatment is more recommended for large varicose veins, as the laser is inserted into the vein. The technology behind the method is called ELVS (Endo Laser Vein System).

It is a minimally invasive procedure, which is performed under local anesthesia or in the patient’s twilight sleep. The vein is reduced in size by the heat of the laser, so that there is no more blood congestion. The time required for the procedure is about 1 hour. Afterwards, the patient may immediately put weight on the leg.

Operation

If surgery on varicose veins is unavoidable, there are basically two options: Stripping: This procedure is used when a minimally invasive procedure is not possible due to the location and size of the vein. A so-called stripper is then inserted through a probe at the base of the vein and removed through a second incision. The entire varicose vein can thus be pulled out without the need for a long skin incision.

Phlebektomy (hook method): Through a small skin incision a special hook is inserted into the subcutaneous fat tissue, where the vein can be caught by the hook and pulled out. Both surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis so that the patient can return home the same day.
