Treatment | Exercises against varicose veins

Treatment

Varicose veins can be treated with relatively simple means. The aim is to promote the natural return transport of blood to the heart by allowing the venous pump to work properly. Various options are available.

Conservative therapy is primarily aimed at changes in everyday behavior: more exercise: Especially with monotonous activities that require long periods of sitting or standing, you should make sure that you integrate regular exercises into your daily routine. Regular exercise, for example walking, jogging, hiking or cycling, also strengthens the leg muscles and thus promotes the return of blood. Alternating showers: Due to the alternating stimuli from cold to hot, the vessels often have to expand and contract again.

This promotes blood circulation. Raising the legs: Especially if varicose veins are already present, it is advisable to raise the legs at night to facilitate the return of blood to the heart. Compression stockings: These are stockings that fit very tightly and can also be specially fitted under certain circumstances.

They provide external pressure on the legs, which compresses the muscles and compresses the veins. The varicose veins can also be surgically removed or obliterated. The treating physician decides which therapy is most suitable.
