Products
Methoxsalen was commercially available as a solution for extracorporeal use and had been approved since 2008 (Uvadex, Meladinine). Both products are now off the market. In Germany, some drugs are still available. see also under Methoxsalen cream.
Structure and properties
Methoxsalen (C12H8O4, Mr = 216.2 g/mol) is 8-methoxypsoralen, cf. psoralen.
Effects
Methoxsalen (ATC D05BA02) is photosensitizing.
Indications
- Psoriasis vulgaris
- Mycosis fungoides, other forms of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
- Vitiligo
Dosage
According to the professional information. Methoxsalen is used in combination with UVA irradiation (PUVA therapy).
