Nutrition in case of lipedema – What should be considered?
Sports that take place in water are particularly suitable for people with lipedema because the water pressure on the tissue acts like a kind of natural lymphatic drainage. Sports such as swimming, aqua-jogging, aqua-aerobics and aqua-cycling are recommended. Especially when it is warm, when the symptoms often become more severe, the coolness of the water can relieve the pain.
One should avoid long standing and sitting. In principle, one should avoid being overweight in the case of lipedema and maintain one’s ideal weight. To reduce overweight, any sport, especially endurance sports, can be done with pleasure.
Swimming is ideal for people with lipedema. Targeted leg exercises are also well suited, on fitness equipment or on a mat at home. Regular fascial training is recommended, especially in cases of advanced lipedema.
At best, you should do ten-minute exercises with a fascia roll every three days to loosen the adhesions in the connective tissue. Overall, you should do the sport that is good for you and try to keep your weight. Especially in the case of a painful lipedema, bleeding can quickly occur with small bumps or injuries.
In the advanced stage the skin is poorly supplied with blood and is cool. Fasciae are connective tissue structures that form sheaths around all structures such as bones, muscles and organs. The lymph channels are also surrounded by fascia, so that the lymph flow depends on the condition of the connective tissue.
If a congestion of lymph occurs, the fasciae become sticky. In the case of lipedema, this can occur. For this reason, facial training is useful to loosen the adhesion and promote blood circulation.
Fascial training with a fascial roll should be performed regularly to maintain the effect. By rolling on the fascia roll, the cells are manipulated in such a way that they subsequently fill up with cell fluid again. A ten-minute workout every three days is optimal for the lipedema.
As a general rule, one should avoid the sauna, hot sun baths and intense heat with a lipedema. The heat often makes the symptoms worse. If you don’t want to do without it, you should at least give the tissue a cold shower after a hot bath or sauna so that the vessels contract again. Alternate showers are especially recommended.
