The following are the most important diseases or complications that can be caused by osteoarthritis:
Musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (M00-M99).
- Arthritis (joint inflammation) – this is characterized by inflammatory changes that take as synovitis (synovial inflammation) their origin in the joint capsule.
- Movement restriction
- Joint malpositions
- Gonarthrosis (knee joint arthrosis), contralateral with coxarthrosis (hip joint arthrosis) present.
- Coxarthrosis, contralateral in the presence of coxarthrosis.
- Contractures – permanent shortening of the muscles with resulting joint constraint.
- Ankle arthritis, ipsilateral (on the same side) in 31% of cases with gonarthrosis.
- Synovialitis chondrodetritica (inflammation of the inner layer of the joint capsule/synovial inflammation of osteoarthritis).
Psyche – nervous system (F00-F99; G00-G99)
- Insomnia (sleep disorders)
Symptoms and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings not elsewhere classified (R00-R99).
