Overweight (Obesity): Classification

Obesity (overweight) or overweight is very common in many countries today. Only about one-third of the population is at a weight appropriate for their age and height. You can calculate whether you are overweight using the BMI (body mass index). BMI is calculated by dividing your body weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has made a classification of overweight according to the BMI:

BMI
Normal weight 18,5-24,9
Overweight 25,0-29,9
Obesity grade I 30-34,9
Obesity grade II 35-39,9
Severe obesity grade III over 40

People with obesity have a lower life expectancy because obesity itself accelerates aging processes and causes the development of numerous secondary diseases, which in turn accelerate aging processes. Obesity is thus one of the classic diseases of aging.
