Structure and properties

Oxitriptan (C11H12N2O3, Mr = 220.2 g/mol) is a 5-hydroxy derivative of the amino acid tryptophan, the precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin, and is also known as 5-hydroxytryptophan. Serotonin itself is not bioavailable and is therefore administered as a prodrug.

Contraindications

Oxitriptan is contraindicated in severe renal insufficiency, carcinoid syndrome, and systemic inflammatory connective tissue disease. For complete precautions, see the drug label.

Adverse Effects

Possible adverse effects include digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, anorexia, nausea, vomiting.
