Pathogenesis (development of disease)

The cause of presbyopia is probably a combination of changes in the lens with loss of elasticity of the lens nucleus, as well as changes in the ciliary muscle (a ring-shaped muscle in the eye to which the lens of the eye is attached (above the intervening zonular fibers).
