Structure and properties
Procainamide (C13H21N3O, Mr = 235.3 g/mol) is a derivative of the local anesthetic procaine. Procaine is an ester; procainamide is an amide. Procainamide is present in drugs as procainamide hydrochloride.
Effects
Procainamide (ATC C01BA02) has antiarrhythmic properties. The effects are due to blockade of sodium channels.
Indications
For the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
