Procedure of the operation | Reduce labia minora

Procedure of the operation

Before the operation, there are detailed discussions to clarify individual ideas, as well as detailed physical examinations with target definition. The surgical procedure is performed in consultation with the patient either under local anesthesia, twilight sleep or general anesthesia. Depending on the choice of the clinic and the doctor performing the surgery, the procedure can be performed as an inpatient or outpatient.

An outpatient procedure should be well-considered and take into account factors such as the tolerance of narcotic medication, the patient’s wishes and a high probability of low postoperative pain. The average duration of the surgery is one to two hours. There are three different surgical procedures: labia reduction or therapy reduction plasty, labia reconstruction and modelling of the labia majora.

In the latter operation there is the possibility of volume increase by injection of own fat. The modelling of the labia represents a correction of a failed operation and is carried out in individual consultation with the patient. The wound is closed with sutures after the surgical procedure, which is aimed at a cosmetically pleasing and as far as possible scar-free result.

Aftercare

The post-treatment of a labia reduction includes especially the hygienic aspects as well as the avoidance of mechanical stress. The timing of the operation should be chosen so that, if possible, no menstrual bleeding occurs for 14 days after the procedure. Special bandages and plasters are not required.

Insoles should be used to protect against wound secretions. The surgical wound is cleaned several times a day. Sitting baths are suitable for this purpose.

Sports such as riding and cycling are not recommended for a period of about four to six weeks. The same applies to sexual intercourse. Less strenuous sports are possible after just one to two weeks.

Loose fitting clothing and cotton underwear are suitable for the time after the operation. In addition, the wound should be examined by a doctor at regular intervals. The doctor will prescribe an adequate pain medication as required.
