Prognosis | Patellar Tendon Inflammation

Prognosis

The prognosis for patellar tendonitis is generally good. It may take longer for the symptoms to subside completely, but if the patient conscientiously observes the grace period and then increases the load very slowly, the probability of complete recovery is very high. Nevertheless, it should be noted that if the patient overexerts himself again, he is more susceptible to suffering from another inflammation of the patellar tendon.

Cycling is one of the most common causes of patellar tendon inflammation, since the tendon is subjected to massive stress when cycling. If the tendon is already damaged or if there is chronic inflammation, a new inflammation will quickly occur. Frequent inflammation can lead to calcium deposits, which increase the risk of a patellar tendon rupture. In case of an inflammation, complete healing should be waited for before getting back on the bike. Knee bandages can help with chronic complaints.

Prevention

In order to avoid patellar tendon inflammation, it is best to avoid overloading the patella tendon or to increase the training intensity only slowly when performing activities that place a heavy load on the patella tendon, such as corresponding sports (running, jumping, etc.).
