Prophylaxis

The best prevention against intestinal diseases in general is a healthy, balanced diet and sufficient fluid intake of at least 1.5 liters per day. In terms of nutrition, fiber, fruit and vegetables should be on the daily menu. Enteritis can often be prevented by adequate hygiene.

Many of the pathogens cannot survive outside the body for long. Therefore regular hand washing and in the best case regular hand disinfection are the most effective means to prevent enteritis.Prophylaxis of coeliac disease or Crohn’s disease is not possible according to current knowledge and a family history of coeliac disease suggests a hereditary cause.
