Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease. It usually occurs after puberty and can only be treated systemically. In addition to skin symptoms, psoriasis can also be accompanied by joint problems and vascular inflammation. There are various options available for the treatment of psoriasis. These are applied depending on the severity of the symptoms.

Localization of skin scales

Skin scales can appear on different parts of the body. The affected areas are not only the face or head, but also the genital area or extremities. The following sections provide an overview of the affected areas.

The facial skin is very sensitive. Therefore, only creams specifically for facial skin should be used for the face. The facial skin is unprotected and is therefore in direct contact with the environment.

Skin flakes on the face mostly occur in extremely dry facial skin.Since the face is always visible, they are a particular burden for the person concerned. A dermatologist should be consulted if there are major problems with the face. Here, creams can be mixed individually for each skin type so that the cream optimally meets the needs of the skin.

In case of scaly skin, the appropriate skin care should be chosen depending on the cause. If the cream is too oily, this can promote the formation of pimples, especially on facial skin. If the skin is too dry, this can lead to increased scaling.

The scalp is the most common place for flaky skin. This is due to the fact that frequent hair washing causes a lot of water to act on the scalp, which can lead to dryness. Furthermore, shampoos and conditioners can irritate the scalp.

In this case it is recommended to switch to a shampoo that is gentle on the scalp. Linola shampoo or the very well-known anti-dandruff shampoo “Head and Shoulders” is recommended here. These shampoos gently moisturize the scalp and help the skin to regenerate.

In addition, the greasing of the hair can be reduced. The skin flakes in the ear are the result of an imbalance of the skin. Like the skin on the face, the skin in the ear can also start to flake if the skin becomes too dry.

Here too, it is recommended to use creams prescribed by the dermatologist. The special feature of the ear is that, unlike the rest of the skin, it is a warmer and moister place. This favors the settling of fungi.

If the skin is affected by fungus, in addition to redness and itching, skin flaking can also occur. The fungus can nestle anywhere on the skin. In the case of a fungal infestation, an antimycotic therapy should be initiated to stop the fungal infestation of the skin and prevent further spread.

Scaly skin appears on the nose for the same reason as on the rest of the face. Dry skin leads to increased scaling here. There is nothing else to consider on the nose but on the face.

Here too, the therapy of choice is a moisturizing cream. It should be noted that the anatomical position of the nose can lead to increased exposure to the sun. It is therefore recommended to use a sun protection factor even in low sunlight.

Excessive exposure to the sun can also lead to scaling of the skin in the form of sunburn. The eyebrows are also affected by facial skin. Plucking the eyebrows can cause additional irritation of the skin.

Since it is hairy skin, it can come here to the increased fat by sebaceous glands. If the sebaceous glands lose their function due to the cold and the resulting reduced blood circulation of the skin, scaling can occur. The scrotum is surrounded by a moist and warm environment.

Especially in the intimate area, which is often predestined for a fungal attack due to the large amount of clothing, a fungal attack must be considered when scaling occurs in this area of the skin. If the scaling is associated with itching and redness, a fungal infection is very likely. A doctor should be consulted and an antimycotic treatment (treatment against fungal infection) with an ointment (for example Canesten) should be initiated.

It should also be noted that the fungus can be transmitted during sexual intercourse, which can lead to a fungal infection of the vagina in women. The legs, especially the shins, are also a typical location for scaly skin. This area of skin is often very dry.

In addition, this area of skin can be irritated by frequent shaving. In most cases a caring body lotion can help here. If a body lotion does not help, a dermatologist should be consulted for further clarification of the skin change.

Scaling of the skin all over the body is rather unlikely. However, if it does occur, a skin disease should be considered. Scaling often occurs in various parts of the body in the case of psoriasis, but neurodermatitis can also cause such symptoms.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease that can be accompanied by joint involvement. Neurodermatitis is also an inflammatory skin disease. Neurodermatitis usually begins in childhood and is often self-limiting during puberty. Neurodermatitis can be accompanied by very severe itching.
