The psyche lies in the realm of the invisible, intangible. It is the immaterial core of the individual. It influences what the person feels and can imagine. It is a biomagnetic energy field and is superior to the material body.
What is the psyche?
The psyche controls the mental and inner life of man, influences his perception and controls his reactions. The psyche controls the mental and inner life of man, influences his perception and controls his reactions. The psyche is now considered to be one of four parts that make up the non-material portion of the human individual. The other intangible parts are spirit, soul and consciousness. Psyche exists only in connection with the body, whereas the soul exists in all world religions even after the physical body dies. For many laymen, psyche and soul are the same thing, but this is not true. The psyche is the sum of all human perceptions and thinking. The soul, on the other hand, sums up all human emotions, so it has a lot in common with the psyche. The psyche is a kind of storage medium. It stores memories or distorts them in order to cope with anxiety. Psyche is differently complex in each person. It provides us with a comprehensive picture of reality, but supplements it with information from the past and ideas about the future. A complex psyche can present reality in a very sophisticated way, but it can also present a very distorted picture of it.
Function and task
While the bodies of living beings are made of organic materials, the psyche forms another dimension that moves outside matter. Everything that the human eye cannot perceive takes place in this psychic world. The inner life leads a life of its own. Medicine also has a hard time defining the psyche. They see the psyche as the sum of several components: it consists of consciousness and ego-consciousness, attention, memory, formal and content-related thinking, perception, drive and affect. Consciousness determines our personality and can also be deliberately switched off (narcosis). The mind shapes a person’s mental faculties, that is, his intellect, reasoning ability, communicative skills, and decision-making power. For example, the mind can detect distortions of reality. Mind and psyche always work together. The psyche helps in the formation of consciousness. Consciousness enables the distinction between memory and reality and helps to correct a distorted image. Thus, the psyche has a great influence on physical and mental health and can strengthen or weaken the immune system. Mental health is a pleasant feeling that expresses well-being and is determined by environmental and personal factors. Those who are mentally healthy can usually cope with the demands placed on them. If reality is perceived in a very distorted way, the psyche partially loses its basic functions and anxiety can no longer be processed properly. If the psyche is ill, the distortion of the perceived image is often even intensified and therapeutic help is necessary. A 100% healthy psyche is almost impossible to find in any human being, but normally he is not dominated by his fear. Mental stability has an influence on how a person copes with strokes of fate. Today we know that mental stability is largely genetic. There are “happiness genes” that control mental stability. People who are endowed with a particularly large number of these genes remain balanced even under stress. The hereditary factors thus determine the basic mental constitution in addition to the influences of the environment.
Diseases and ailments
People whose behavior the environment cannot properly assess are quickly classified as mentally ill or unstable if their actions do not correspond to what is socially “normal”. An actual imbalance of the psyche expresses itself in many different ways. The most common mental illnesses are addictions and anxiety disorders. Everyone is familiar with fears and worries, but when they become excessive, performance and well-being are impaired. Then anxiety is already an illness in its own right. Even children can be affected. Of course, not every feeling of insecurity needs to be treated medically, because anxiety regulates life functions and protects us from danger.Anxiety disorders occur in different forms. There are short-term anxiety attacks, panic attacks, but also a full-blown anxiety syndrome. Permanent anxiety states also lead to organic dysfunctions. Those affected then have shortness of breath, trembling hands, sleep disorders, nightmares, states of weakness and lose more and more of their zest for life. Depression is also a consequence of intense anxiety and manifests itself with permanent mood lows. Today, several psychotherapeutic treatments are available to treat mental illness, often supplemented by medication. However, although it is known that the psyche rules over the body, many doctors still treat mental illnesses on the basis of the physical symptoms. The triggering factors that lie in the psyche are often given too little understanding. Even though genes influence mental stability, they are not solely responsible for it. It is only in social interaction that people find out how resilient they actually are. Those who have supportive families and friends remain more composed in stressful situations. To feel good in your body, you need many influences. For example, the soul loves the greenery of nature, which is a protective factor for mental health. Nature inspires the soul, makes one serene and protects against anxiety and depression.
