Reactive Arthritis: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of reactive arthritis/Reiter’s disease.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What complaints have you noticed?
  • How long have these changes existed?
  • Do you have painful joints?
  • Which joints are affected?
  • Are the joints swollen, overheated? Are the joints restricted in movement?
  • Have you noticed any symptomatology in the eyes recently? Have you noticed redness of the eye, itching or a foreign body sensation?
  • Do you suffer from burning during urination? Increased urination? Pain when urinating?
