Rose Lichen (Pityriasis Rosea): Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate pityriasis rosea (rose lichen):

Initial symptoms

  • The first sign is usually the so-called mother plate, which often appears on the trunk; this is a good coin-sized, scaly, pinkish spot on the chest or back
  • In addition, headache (cephalgia), fatigue, nervousness may occur

Note: A manifestation on the genital mucosa is possible.

The following symptoms (after a few days).

  • Small-spot exanthema (rash) – aligns along the skin lines on the trunk, neck, or extremities near the body (rarely on the oral mucosa); spots increase in size and bear a petty scaling at the edge
  • Itching

The exanthema may occur two or three times. However, it heals without consequences after a few weeks.
