Short-term care

It can happen that a patient with a care level 3 needs intensive care by professional nursing staff for a short period of time. For example, after a stay in hospital, short-term care in a nursing home may be required. The nursing insurance fund subsidizes the short-term care with 1. 612€ for a maximum of 28 days per year.

After a hospital stay

If a person in need of care with a recognized care level 3 requires intensive care in a nursing home after a hospital stay, he or she is entitled to short-term care for up to 28 days. However, if one becomes in need of care only after a hospital stay, one is also entitled to benefits from the nursing care insurance fund. In this case, an application must first be made to the nursing care insurance fund for an assessment in order to obtain a degree of care. Afterwards, care services and care allowances can be used.
