Side effects of Ilon® ointment
Like most effective medical products, Ilon ® ointments have side effects. Although most of the ingredients are of herbal origin, this does not mean that no adverse effects can occur. Conversely, this also confirms the effectiveness of the ingredients.
In case of an allergy to the ingredients contained in the ointment, the ointment should not be used. It is not known how often allergic reactions occur after using Ilon® ointments. To be sure that no major allergic reaction is to be expected, only a small area of skin can be treated in the ointment at the beginning of the treatment.
If after a few hours no undesired reaction is observed on the skin, an allergy to one of the ingredients is unlikely. An allergic reaction to the Ilon® ointment can vary from person to person. Typically, redness on the appropriately treated skin as well as itching and small pustules and blisters indicate such a reaction.
In pronounced cases, an anaphylactic shock may occur in which the entire body is affected by the allergic reaction. However, the probability of such a shock occurring after treatment with an Ilon® ointment is considered extremely low. If the first signs of an allergic reaction appear, the treatment should be interrupted and a dermatologist should be consulted if necessary. Further side effects on the Ilon® Ointment are not known so far.
Fields of application
One of the indications for which Ilon® ointments are most frequently used is in the treatment of pimples. Pimples are basically an inflammation under the skin, which is accompanied by excessive sebum production and infection with bacteria. The Ilon® ointment with its active ingredients can help to treat the inflammation and at the same time reduce the number of germs.
Both help the pimple to heal faster and prevent a so-called escalation of the inflammation. Likewise, the blood circulation-promoting effect of the ointment can help the pimple heal faster due to the body’s own immune response. The inflammation is thus combated both by the active ingredients themselves and indirectly by promoting the body’s immune system.
However, it should be noted that treatment of a pimple “overnight” cannot be expected. Although treatment with Ilon® ointment tends to accelerate healing and may prevent the situation from worsening, it usually takes a few days for the pimple to heal completely. Nail bed inflammation is another disease for which treatment with Ilon® Ointment is useful.
Nail bed inflammation can occur on both toes and fingernails and is often accompanied by pain, redness and pus accumulation under the nail. The application of Ilon® Ointment and thus the anti-inflammatory as well as antiseptically acting ingredients can help in the treatment of nail bed inflammation. In addition to the direct anti-inflammatory effect of the herbal ingredients, the ointment’s circulation-enhancing effect is also helpful in the treatment of the inflammation.
However, the stage of the nail bed inflammation must be considered. The Ilon® ointment should only be used in the early stages, as it can be assumed that the slightly antiseptic effect of the ointment is sufficient to treat the inflammation. In the advanced stage, much stronger ointments should be applied or nail baths should be performed.
Surgical measures may even be necessary in order to adequately treat nail bed inflammation. The Ilon® ointment is also used for subcutaneous abscesses, among other things. The term abscess describes an accumulation of pus that is located in a cavity that was not previously present.
Thus, a pimple or boil is also a small abscess under the skin. However, large collections of pus and inflammation under the skin can also occur. Treatment with Ilon® ointment is useful if small abscesses are present in the early stages.
In these cases, the anti-inflammatory and antiseptic ointment can help to treat the abscess and achieve healing. The immune-supporting effect additionally helps in this case. However, larger abscesses should not be treated with the ointment.
Large abscesses certainly represent a danger and should be treated professionally. In most cases, only a surgical opening of the pus cavity and draining of the pus will help. The best way to treat the individual abscess is to visit a dermatologist.
Ilon Ointment® may be used for localized inflammation in the genital area. These include purulent pimples, shaving spots, hair follicle inflammation, inflammation of the sweat glands and also smaller abscesses. It should be noted that the application in the genital area should only be used in areas without mucosa.
These include the groin, the mons veneris and the outer parts of the labia majora. In the area of the small and the inner parts of the labia majora, as well as the vaginal vestibule, application with Ilon ointment should only be done in consultation with a doctor (e.g. family doctor or gynaecologist) or a midwife. The ingredients of the ointment can lead to painful cleanliness on the mucous membrane.
Furthermore, for the application in the intimate area, a doctor should be consulted after approx. 3 days if no improvement occurs. Basically, the application of Ilon® ointment can help with ingrown hair.
Due to the anti-inflammatory and decongestant effect of the ointment, the hair has the possibility to reach the skin surface. There it can then be removed with tweezers or a needle under the most sterile conditions possible if the hair does not fall out on its own. However, if it is an open and suppurating site, a doctor may need to be consulted, as a major inflammation can develop here due to a bacterial infection. The Ilon® traction ointment can also be used for inflamed mosquito bites and insect bites.
If the inflammation of the bite has spread into the skin and a purulent inflammation has formed, healing can be accelerated with the Ilon® Ointment. If it is a scratched puncture, Betaisodona ointment should be used rather to prevent a bacterial infection. In case of strong itching, but no existing inflammation, Fenistil® cream can be used to stop itching.
According to the manufacturer’s instructions, Ilon® ointment must not be used during pregnancy and lactation. There are not sufficient data for use during pregnancy and lactation. In this case, the treating gynecologist or midwife should be consulted whether they still recommend the application or know of alternatives that could be used instead of Ilon® Ointment.
It should not be applied to open wounds. The basic principle of Ilon® Ointment, which belongs to the group of pulling ointments, is anti-inflammatory. However, in the case of an open wound, the ointment must focus on a disinfectant or antiseptic effect. Therefore, in the case of an open wound, skin antiseptics should be used first. For larger open wounds a doctor should be consulted to ensure adequate wound care.
