Side effects of the diet
Most capsules or tablets that are supposed to help you lose weight are simply ineffective. Herbal tablets or capsules alone have no significant effect on weight loss. Side effects can include digestive problems and physical discomfort.
Prescription drugs in particular can have serious side effects of life-threatening proportions. Diuretics, for example, lead to severe water loss, which also flushes out important electrolytes. This can lead to cardiac arrhythmia.
Fat binders interact with the absorption of dietary fats and can cause severe diarrhoea. Appetite suppressants are particularly dangerous. They have a strong effect on the cardiovascular system.
In some cases they can cause dizziness, high blood pressure, rhythm disturbances or ventricular fibrillation. So tablets or capsules that are supposed to help you lose weight not only cost a lot of money, but can even be dangerous. Those who maintain a moderate calorie deficit and pay attention to the intake of all essential macro- and micronutrients, on the other hand, will not only feel healthier and fresher, but will also lose weight moderately but in the long term.
How much can/should I lose weight with the diet form of the tablets/capsules?
Those who take tablets or capsules alone and maintain their usual diet will not be able to lose weight. With laxatives or diuretics, at most a loss of intestinal contents or water can be recorded. A similar effect occurs if you radically reduce your carbohydrate intake as part of a low carb diet.
The body goes to glycogen stores in the liver and muscles and loses water. A moderate calorie deficit leads to less but long-term weight loss, this time due to the gradual burning of fat reserves. Depending on the initial weight and the size of the deficit, half a kilo to one kilo per week can disappear.
How can I avoid the yoyo effect with this diet?
A yo-yo effect always occurs when old habits are returned to after a diet or a change of diet. Although the total turnover of the body decreases minimally, after the diet, the amount of food eaten is again significantly higher than the energy consumption. The surplus is naturally stored in fat pads. In order to avoid a yo-yo effect, after a diet, care should continue to be taken not to consume more calories than the body actually uses. Increasing consumption can be achieved through exercise or sports, and muscles irritated by weight training even increase energy consumption at rest.
Medical evaluation of the diet
The effect of diet pills or other tablets and capsules has not yet been convincing in any scientific study. If so, only minimal support for a change in diet is possible. Many preparations, especially prescription drugs, can lead to serious, life-threatening side effects under certain circumstances.
In addition to the absurd promises of some miracle pills, these can therefore even cause serious damage to the consumer. From a medical point of view, tablets or capsules for healthy weight reduction are completely superfluous to harmful. Anyone who wants to lose weight healthily and in the long term and wants to reduce excess fat deposits should above all rely on a combination of a balanced diet and exercise. Anyone with a moderate calorie deficit who consumes all nutrients, especially proteins and healthy fats, has a much better chance of getting rid of those annoying pounds in a healthy way and of maintaining the success in the long term.
