Side effects

Like any drug, the use of Viani® is not without a certain frequency of side effects. Initial headaches are particularly common (more than 10%), but they improve significantly after a certain period of use. Furthermore, an increased number of colds have been reported in patients treated with Viani® for COPD.

Frequently (less than 10%) there is also a so-called thrush attack when taking the drug. This is a fungal infection of the oral cavity. Such a thrush infestation can usually be prevented by regular mouth rinses after taking the medicine.

If a thrush infestation is still present, the treating doctor can prescribe medication against the side effect. Muscle cramps and painful joints can also occur when taking Viani®. Patients suffering from COPD who take Viani® regularly may also suffer from lung infections, sinusitis, bruising, bone fractures, and reduced potassium levels in the blood.

Rarer side effects include a greatly increased heartbeat (tachycardia), sleep disturbances, skin rashes and even breathing difficulties. As a general rule, if there is a feeling that certain symptoms are caused by taking the medication, the treating physician should be informed so that the safety can be confirmed or an adjustment of the medication can be made.
