Viani® is a so-called mixed preparation used in bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or chronic bronchitis. The drug is available in different doses and must be prescribed by a physician. In total, Viani® contains two different active ingredients that can have an effect on the respiratory tract.
The active ingredients are salmeterol and fluticasone. The drug is sold as an inhalation powder so that the active ingredients can be inhaled and thus exert their effect directly on the affected organ. The two active ingredients contained in Viani® complement each other in the treatment of bronchial asthma, COPD or chronic bronchitis.
What all diseases have in common is that the respiratory tract is affected. Different causes lead to a narrowing of the bronchial tubes in these diseases, making it difficult to breathe. Treatment with the combination preparation Viani® attacks at two different points: The active ingredient salmeterol is an ?2 sympathomimetic that dilates the bronchi.
Behind this effect lies the mechanism by which the drug activates a special receptor (?2-adrenoreceptor) and thus triggers relaxation of the bronchial muscles. In this way, Salmeterol, and thus Viani®, intervenes directly in the cause of patients’ labored breathing. Salmeterol belongs to the group of so-called long-acting beta agonists (LABA) ?2 sympathomimetics and thus cannot be used for acute improvement of symptoms.
Rather, salmeterol serves as a bronchodilatory-expanding drug that is well suited for long-term therapy. The onset of action can be expected after about 20 to 30 minutes after application of the drug. The other active ingredient contained in Viani®, fluticasone, is a so-called glucocorticoid, which is mainly used in the treatment of the chronic lung diseases mentioned above.
Fluticasone is an active ingredient that has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, immunosuppressive and antiproliferative effects. These effects make sense in the treatment of chronic lung disease, since inflammatory reactions and activation of the immune system often play a major role in the onset of the symptoms. The two active ingredients contained in Viani® thus represent an ideal combination in the therapy of chronic lung diseases.
