Single Joint Pain (Monarthropathy): History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of monarthropathy with pain.

Family history

  • Is there a frequent occurrence of gout in your family?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you suffer from joint pain? Which joint is affected?
  • Is the affected joint overheated, swollen and limited in function?
  • When did the pain occur?
  • How was the pain development?
    • Rapid (hours to a few days)? [Gout?, joint infection.]
    • Slow?
  • Are the complaints first-time or recurrent?
  • Do you have a fever? If so, for how long and what is the temperature?
  • Have you noticed any joint deformities?
  • Have you noticed bursitis (mostly at the elbow)?
  • Do you have any other complaints?
    • Intestinal infection?
    • Joint locks?
  • Were there any triggers for the pain?
    • Physical exertion?
    • Accident?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you eat a balanced diet?
  • Were there any triggers for the pain?
    • Do you consume a lot of foods high in purine (meat) and/or fructose?
    • Do you drink alcohol? If so, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Previous diseases (blood diseases (eg, hemophilia), fractures, bone diseases, sex diseases, kidney diseases, rheumatological diseases, tumor diseases).
  • Operations (bone/joint; joint prostheses; joint punctures).
  • Radiotherapy
  • Allergies
  • Environmental history
