Soft zinc paste is usually produced in pharmacies. Retailers can also order it from specialized service providers. Finished medicines with similar properties are available (e.g., ZinCream Medinova).

Production

Zinc oxide (250) 30.0 g
Lanolin 30.0 g
White vaseline 60.0 g

The zinc oxide is heated in a drying oven at 100°C. The lanolin and white petroleum jelly are mixed and melted on the water bath. Add the heated zinc oxide in portions to make the mixture into a paste. Store protected from light. Other formulations without lanolin are described in the literature.

Soft zinc paste is a white, soft, smooth paste with a faint smell of lanolin. It is easy to spread.

The paste has skin protecting, skin nourishing and drying properties.

Zinc paste is contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity.
