Summary | Achillodynia Physiotherapy

Summary

Overall, achillodynia is a disease that affects mainly young people and competitive athletes, especially athletes and runners. Symptoms can be reddish or warm spots in the affected area, which are due to the inflammatory irritation. In some people affected, the Achilles tendon crunches audibly during movement and swelling may also occur.

Usually only one side is affected, but in some patients both sides are affected. If the Achillodynia is not treated in time, the clinical picture can become chronic. In advanced stages, the structural damage to the Achilles tendon can be so extensive that even simple movements can trigger pain and even pain at rest can be difficult to control.

Physiotherapeutic care is therefore particularly important when problems occur. Physiotherapy helps to correct incorrect posture and strain and to relieve the Achilles tendon through certain stretching and strengthening exercises and to prepare it for sporting activity. If the symptoms are interpreted correctly and in time, the development of serious problems and progressions requiring treatment can be counteracted.

It only becomes problematic if the pain is ignored for too long, the Achilles tendon continues to be overburdened or there are other underlying diseases. If you find any problems, do not hesitate to discuss them with your doctor or physiotherapist. Especially athletes should always think about their joints and supplement their training with a good warm-up and stretching phase. Achillodynia is in itself a disease that is easy to treat but also easily preventable.
