Summary | Ring rubella

Summary

Ringel rubella is an infectious disease caused by viruses. It is transmitted by droplet infection. It usually occurs in toddlers or schoolchildren and is most prevalent in the winter and spring months.

The initial stage is characterized by general symptoms. This is followed by a rash that spreads from the face to the rest of the skin. The rash is itchy and has a typical curly form.

A therapy is not necessary. Infection can only occur in the period between the beginning of the initial stage and the appearance of the rash. Complications are to be expected only in rare cases, and immunocompromised persons and pregnant women must exercise special caution. There is still no vaccination available, so that exposure prophylaxis, i.e. staying away from infected persons, is the only effective measure.
