Symptoms | Unilateral sinusitis

Symptoms

Patients suffering from unilateral sinusitis have a variety of symptoms. Infectious forms are usually accompanied by a rhinitis or at least an increased discharge of nasal secretions. In addition, most of those affected describe a strong feeling of pressure in the area of the upper cheek, which is sometimes also perceived as pain.

The occurrence of headaches is not uncommon in the presence of a unilateral sinusitis. Due to the already described close neighborhood relationship between the maxillary sinus and the cheek teeth (lat. molars) of the upper jaw, toothache can also occur in the case of such an illness. Furthermore, general signs of infection such as fever and fatigue are symptoms from which many patients with sinusitis suffer. In addition, in the course of sinusitis, many patients affected suffer from inflammatory irritations in the area of the eye, a significant decrease in the sense of smell and taste and/or purulent discharge from the nose.
